Give helpers more ways to create comfort and connection
Comfort is personal. A familiar song, warm drink, photograph, routine, pet story, soft light, or gentle phrase may help someone feel safer in ways a general care plan cannot explain.
This printable gathers the person’s favorite music, foods, activities, people, places, objects, sensory comforts, routines, best times of day, and the things that make them laugh. It also records how they like to be approached and whether they welcome touch.
Complete it by noticing what works
- Ask the person directly wherever possible and include their own words.
- Add small, specific details: the exact song, preferred volume, favorite cup, familiar television program, or bedtime routine.
- Update the page when preferences change and share it with family, friends, aides, and respite caregivers.
Only offer touch the person welcomes. For distress that does not ease, follow the current care plan and contact the appropriate care professional.
