Give helpers a safer map of the home
A backup caregiver may not know where the water shut-off, electrical panel, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, spare key, or medical alert instructions are located. Writing down those locations can save time without exposing entry or alarm codes.
The guide also captures dementia-related safety needs, secured items, door alarms, a wandering response plan, trusted neighbors, pet care, and household service providers.
Walk through the home while completing it
- Confirm each utility, safety device, and emergency supply location instead of relying on memory.
- Write names and locations only; give trusted helpers keys, codes, and passwords through a secure separate method.
- Review the wandering plan, recent photo, identification or locator device, and first calls with everyone likely to help.
Never lock a person inside the home. If someone is missing, search nearby briefly as directed on the sheet, then call 911 and explain the person’s condition.
